The Story Behind The Fairy Paintbox

The Fairy Paintbox was created during the summer of 2005, by Emily Curran. At the time, Curran worked toward obtaining her BA at Penn State University and sought ideas to work-from-home while raising her young daughter and attending the university full-time.

From a young age, Curran had learned from her mother, a life-long artist, how to sketch, draw and paint. This background became the foundation on which the future company would build.

Curran already had a small network of friends and family she'd painted murals for, so she decided to build upon her background as an artist and began advertising for children's room murals. Thanks to a course in technical writing & design she took at Penn State, Curran was inspired to establish her website http://www.thefairypaintbox.com/ and began offering hand painted murals and children's room design to clients throughout central Pennsylvania.

The Fairy Paintbox had some success with muraling during the first year but not nearly enough to sustain a small growing family, and in 2006, a client asked Curran if she made hand painted wall letters. She immediately began researching the product and found that wall letters were incredibly popular. Within a month of her first wall letter inquiry, The Fairy Paintbox began offering hand painted wall letters to customers. Wall letters quickly became a hit with customers and by 2008, the company offered over one-hundred fonts and many different sized painted wall letters to customers nationwide.

In 2009, The Fairy Paintbox moved from central Pennsylvania to Delaware. The Fairy Paintbox currently offers custom designed wall letters, custom designed bookends, custom frames, custom step stools, custom toddler furniture, custom wall art and custom children's room decor.

Along with her husband, Curran currently raises three young children, is expecting a fourth, runs her online company at home, as well as works and maintains a small studio where all of The Fairy Paintbox products are custom painted.

Curran graduated from Penn State University in 2007. In addition to managing and operating her company, she writes freelance and will publish her first novel during this upcoming year.
